Platelet rich fibrin (PRF) is a unique substance derived from your own blood that aids in hair restoration by promoting the growth of hair and skin cells of the scalp. These growth factors accelerate the healing of injured skin and are commonly used as a tissue engineering scaffold in dental procedures. Essentially, these platelets promote healing. Dr. Hamori injects these super healers into areas where hair is thinning and the new cells create stronger, thicker hair follicles by releasing growth factors in response to tissue injury. The scaffold created by the fibrin matrix is more effective compared to that of platelet rich plasma (PRP), another type of substance used for hair restoration, because it protects the platelets so that their release of growth factors is sustained over a longer period of time. At our office we make the process simple and quick. First your own blood is drawn and placed in a centrifuge which separates out the platelets. While the blood is being processed, topical numbing cream is applied to treatment areas to allow for a comfortable treatment. Pronox ™ (low dose nitrous oxide) may be inhaled for a painless treatment. Tylenol may also be taken beforehand in order to minimize discomfort. Dr. Hamori then injects the PRF into the scalp at the hair follicle level. The whole process takes about half an hour and there is no downtime. The amount of treatments needed to achieve optimal results may vary from one patient to another depending on their baseline. Generally, however, three treatments one month apart are recommended because of hair's natural growth cycles. An increase in hair thickness can be noticed after about 2-3 months. McAndrews MD, American Hair Loss Association. 6 Mar. 2019. 18 Many people suffer from hair loss, whether due to age, genetic predisposition, medications or hormones. There are all sorts of products out there that claim to regrow hair, but most require continuous use or don't live up to their promises. Are you tired of hiding beneath a hat, or feeling like you must wear your hair a certain way to hide thin patches? By the age of thirty-five, two-thirds of men will experience some degree of appreciable hair loss, and by the age of fifty approximately 85% of men have significantly thinning hair. 1 Women now make up more than 40% of American hair loss sufferers. 1 Re store your Hair with the Science of Platelet Rich Fibrin By Kate Myette
