12 Panopitcon's name is one that has long been associated with Fine Art Photography in the Boston area. The Panopticon Gallery in Kenmore Square showcases contemporary photography by both emerging and well-known photographers from around the world. I spent time with owner Paul Sneyd, who has been working in the dark room for over 40 years. Paul has an impressive resume and worked his way up to becoming master printer with Panopticon Imaging, and he is now the owner of both the lab and the Boston gallery. Over the years, Paul has worked with many national and local photographers placing fine art photography in galleries all over the world. But, Paul wants you to know that Panopticon Imaging in Rockland "is here for everyone." Panopticon Imaging's services extend beyond the fine art realm to include digital services, restoration, framing and printing photos for the "smart phone warrior!" They even deliver! RESTORATION The first impression that I had when I reviewed Panopticon's restoration work is Wow! Paul showed me examples of old faded, washed out, torn or water damaged images that they had restored. We often think of the past as a faded and forgotten world, but Panopticon Imaging can restore the past. Their digital specialist Alexa Cushing takes the time to bring back faded or damaged images to an unimagined luster. Oftentimes, old family photos cannot be replaced but that doesn't mean they can't be improved. When you look at the image of this bride, you see how the radiance of a wedding day can be restored. Torn, scratched or stained, your old photographs can be revived at Panopticon. The best part is that you get the original images back. All of the restoration work is done digitally, and the original image is returned to the customer. Paul's team creates new images from the original and uses digital retouching to remove stains and scratches, fix tears, and enhance the contrast and coloring of faded photographs. "We can even cut out people you may not want in the photo," Paul's wife Patty adds, tongue in cheek! SMART PHONES Paul, who has such an incredible background in fine art photography services, wants even more people with smart phone pics to bring images in: "People have a million images on their cell phones that should be displayed. People should showcase their images, rather than keep them stashed away on their phones or computers." He stresses how important it is to save your memories before it's too late: "People think that we would be too expensive compared to other lower quality pharmacies, but our prices are very similar and we use much better quality paper with better inks. We do all of our work on archival paper that is much higher quality than anything else out there." Panopticon makes the process easy: images can be brought in on a memory stick, on the phone, emailed directly to mail@panopticonimaging.com or uploaded directly to the website. It really couldn't be easier to get the images off of your phone and onto the wall. FRAMING Nick Schietromo is Panopticon's master framer and has been with the company for over five years. Recently, Nick sat with a family who brought images from their recent trip to Australia, working to review and edit images to frame and display in their Put Your Memories Where They Belong: On Display By Lindsey Buchleitner PANOPTICON IMAGING INC.
