24 Road to Responsibility (RTR) has had a fantastic year, full of incredible achievements. The organization renovated its community- based day support program at its Braintree location; opened a new residential home in Abington; was named a finalist for the South Shore Community Partners in Prevention Health Literacy Award; raised $13,000 in the Falmouth Road Race; and expressed gratitude for its supporters at its annual Making Lives Better Gala fundraiser in September. In another proud moment, CEO Christopher White was named Marshfield Business Leader of the Year. RTR is a full-service nonprofit that provides homes, jobs, therapeutic day supports and a community for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). RTR believes that everyone deserves a full and dignified life and provides support so that people with disabilities can take their place as productive members of their community. RTR also provides peace of mind to families and caregivers who have a genuine interest in how their loved ones will fare when they are no longer in their care. The organization started in 1988 as a recreational program serving a small group of adults in Marshfield. Over the past 31 years, RTR has grown to be one of the largest and most well-respected service providers in the state. RTR offers a full range of programs geared to meet the needs of the 1300 individuals served daily. RTR now has 49 residential group homes, 9 day habilitation and community based day support programs, as well as robust group and individual employment programs. RENOVATIONS TO COMMUNITY-BASED DAY SUPPORT PROGRAM IN BRAINTREE RTR's day support programs offer individualized behavioral and medical supports for individuals with ID/D. Its specialized programs and group activities support individuals as they successfully integrate into their community at large. RTR recently renovated its Braintree location at 40 Campanelli Drive and welcomed the public to tour the space at an Open House in June. In addition to supportive community members, CEO Christopher White and other members of the RTR team were joined by government officials, including Massachusetts State Senator Walter Timilty, Braintree Mayor Joseph Sullivan, and Quincy Chamber of Commerce President and former State Treasurer Tim Cahill. Senator Timilty presented commendations to Road to Responsibility from both the Massachusetts Senate and the Massachusetts House of Representatives, recognizing RTR's impactful achievements and commitment to helping individuals with ID/D and their families. NEW RESIDENTIAL HOME IN ABINGTON Many residential programs house individuals only until age 22, which leaves many parents, families or caregivers searching for the next step in care for their loved one. This can be a very challenging period and can cause stress among families and the individual, who Road to Responsibility's Extraordinary Successes in "Making Lives Better" in 2019 by Erica Ford S E 2014
