26 Wellspring Multi-Service Center began out of the late Reverend Diane Edson's vision for a thrift shop that would offer people something warm to wear, a cup of coffee and maybe just someone to talk to. The shop opened at a small Hull storefront on Valentine's Day 1985, and it has grown into an integrated multi- service center that offers innumerable supports for those in need. Now in an expansive building on Nantasket Avenue, Wellspring Multi-Service Center offers services that many people are not even aware of. In addition to the thrift shop that Diane created, Wellspring now has a food pantry, an adult education program, transportation, community outreach, elder services, emergency services, job search assistance, a printing shop, a summer lunch program, counseling and legal advocacy services—to name a few. Their mission is one of hope and help: providing support and skills to people facing challenges to their financial, physical or emotional well-being in order to help them achieve independence and self-sufficiency. Wellspring's comprehensive wraparound approach ensures that they can support the whole person and the bigger picture of what they're facing. "We don't let a client come in and deal with only one issue without checking what other things they might need," says President & CEO Vinny Harte.
