36 Eighteen years ago, esthetician Shelley North channeled her passion for making people feel beautiful by creating Glow Beauty Boutique. It began with one spray-tanning booth and a skin care room. Today, North has grown it into an award-winning salon that offers a host of services, including facials, waxing, tanning, lash extensions, cosmetic injections, photorejuvenation, skin care products and more. "We aim to give our clients a unique customer service experience that enhances their natural beauty," says North. Glow Beauty Boutique is still privately-owned, and the whole staff is highly trained and stays on top of today's trends. In addition to receiving Boston's A-List Award, it has also been consistently selected as one of Salon Today Magazine's Top 200 Salons in the United States since 2015. Glow Beauty Boutique makes each client feel like a priority in a setting that provides comprehensive skin care, from make-up application to IPL treatments. The Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) machine brightens skin, treats sun damage, reduces the appearance of brown age spots, acne scarring and hyper pigmentation discoloration, removes unwanted hair and rejuvenates collagen production. How can one machine treat so many skin issues? North explains that the IPL machine's different settings allow it to reach various skin layers. "In your skin, everything lives at a certain depth. By setting the machine to reach a particular skin level, you treat different issues." IPL can even reach the skin's deep collagen layer. North compares the breakdown of collagen to what we see in a mattress: a new mattress has tight springs and the foam between the springs is firm. Over time, the foam between the springs breaks down. In your skin, this translates to sagging and wrinkles. The IPL machine delivers stimulating broad-spectrum light pulses that create heat within the layers of your skin, and this heat allows your skin to lift, retain hydration and regain elasticity. A huge benefit of these powerful and effective light pulses is that they do not ablate the skin or make it raw. Clients only see mild redness and there is no downtime. You can get a treatment and then go out that night! To improve your skin, North recommends six treatments over a period of six months, and then one treatment every six months after that. Glow's nurse, Jessica Flaherty, RN, loves seeing IPL's effect on her clients. "It's an excellent skin treatment that can work hand in hand with BOTOX ® and Dysport ® to achieve a youthful glow." Flaherty says it is never too early to start preventative treatment of wrinkles with BOTOX ® and Dysport ® . The best time to start is before the wrinkles are "at rest." Both of these products have the same protein ingredient and have the effect of relaxing facial muscles for smoother, younger-looking skin, but Dysport ® is faster-acting and costs a bit less. "If you need to see results by the week-end, Dysport ® is a great choice," says Flaherty. Whether you choose BOTOX ® or Dysport ® , you'll love your results thanks to Flaherty's expertise. A certified injector, Flaherty went to nursing school to get into skin care, specifically. "It has always been a passion for me," she says. "I love facial symmetry, enhancing beauty and giving people the best results for their particular bone structure and skin types." In addition to BOTOX ® products, Glow Beauty Boutique offers a range of fillers that target particular facial areas and offer multiple volumes. Flaherty is highly skilled at choosing the right combination of fillers and using them with precision. Many by Erica Ford Celebrates 18 Years of Helping Clients Shine
