WELCOME TO THE WINTER 2020 ISSUE OF SOUTH SHORE MAGAZINE. Happy Winter to you all! www.TheSouthShoreMagazine.com CHECK IT OUT! See past issues and much more. 2 SSM is a Proud Member PUBLISHER'S LETTER I am composing this letter four days before the official date of the Winter Solstice on December 21st, but based on the storm outside, it appears that winter wants to make itself known early this year! 15-plus inches here in Hingham today and my "mid-life" body is sore from snow removal. My hopes are for a couple of early storms to give enough snow to create a fresh, clean landscape for the remainder of winter. What to say about 2020 as we close the year? Too much or too little to discuss here on this short page. Good riddance, and on to better times and circumstances for 2021. The development of multiple virus vaccines is nothing short of a medical miracle; a huge accomplishment and game changer to bring this pandemic to an end. On Page 17 we pay tribute to those whose herculean efforts helped us all during these trying times. I would also like to honor my longtime personal friend, fellow board member at The South Shore Chamber of Commerce and a pillar of the South Shore business community and beyond: Rich Beal of Hingham, CEO of AW Perry Company. A great man, a family man, an asset and a visionary in the business, nonprofit and athletic communities, he passed on suddenly this Fall. His presence and passion and friendship will be truly missed. RIP, Rich. Thank you with the utmost sincerity to our clients and advertisers for their continuing support which means so much to myself, my family and my wonderful staff. Speaking of wonderful staff, a HUGE thank you goes out to my long time Art Director, Christine Orr. For many years she has been there for me through thick and thin and we have persevered through every situation that the world has thrown at us! A very special thanks to Erica Ford for her exquisite writing and editing skills, and her creative abilities for my social media pages for South Shore Magazine and Stanley Blackmur REALTOR on FB, Instagram and LinkedIn. I would also like to thank our amazing photographers: Kerry Riordan of Blu Lemonade Photography, Heather McCall, Suzanne Malloy and Susan Hagstrom for their wonderful work. In this issue, we continue our feature article profile in the nonprofit community with a wonderful feature on School on Wheels Massachusetts and their mission to Educate Kids, Empower Families and End Homelessness. A truly moving and empowering endeavor and mission. School on Wheels and all non-profits need your help now more than ever in every aspect: financially, professionally and as volunteers. Reach out however you can and lend a hand. In our House and Home section we have a spectacular home renovation project utilizing many South Shore based businesses who provide their expertise. The Health and Wellness section features new technology with Dr. Christine Hamori in Duxbury. If you haven't seen their beautiful new state-of-the-art building yet, then schedule an appointment and check it out. It is a real gem, architecturally and visually. Pearl Dental Associates of Holbrook and Scituate provides some great information on dental health and Invisalign ® . This practice is the cutting edge of dentistry and provides so many in-house services; there is no reason to go anywhere else for your dentistry needs. Our Great Tastes section has two great articles: Pastene, a family-owned company based in Canton, has been a household staple name for decades with their authentic Italian food products, and they love the South Shore. Fresh seafood is a staple around here, and it doesn't get any fresher than fish from Rocky Neck Fish Co. Read about their fascinating background and be sure to visit their Milton, Hingham and Chatham locations. Bring on 2021! Cheers!
