22 by Robin Young Tossing and turning? Mind racing? Whether you are suffering from insomnia or breathing issues, insufficient sleep may be causing you a barrage of troubles, from difficulty focusing and staying awake, to disruptions in your family's sleep patterns due to your loud snoring or other sleep behaviors. The link between sleep disorders and medical issues such as stroke risk, cardiac diseases, lowered immune health, as well as focus and memory problems, makes it crucial for those suffering from insufficient sleep to seek treatment as early as possible. Treating disorders like sleep apnea may even reverse other health problems, including serious cardiac issues. Dr. Bernard Durante and Dr. Anit T. Patel are double certified in otolaryngology and sleep medicine. Both are recognized as top doctors in the region, and with their practices, Plymouth Ears, Nose and Throat (ENT) and South Shore Sleep Diagnostics (SSSD), they have created a network of care centers that provides all levels of diagnostics and treatments for ENT disorders and sleep disorders. Their approach promotes patient wellness and early treatment, reducing disruptions to daily life, relationships and physical and mental health. In years past, identifying the cause of a sleep disorder could be a tedious and time-consuming process, often requiring patients to visit multiple care facilities for diagnostics. At SSSD, all the necessary branches of care are under one umbrella, with multiple sleep labs, ENT specialists and even dental services within the network at one or more locations. "Patients love it. They can go to one place and can have all their needs taken care of," says Dr. Patel, explaining that when the process is easier, patients are more likely to follow through on treatment. Dr. Durante and Dr. Patel aim to enhance quality of life for all their patients, from those with allergies and sleep disorders, to those who face sinus infections and hearing loss. Vast improvements in technology and equipment have created more options for patients suffering from these ailments. For example, treatments for sleep apnea typically involve use of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machines, which in the past were large and cumbersome. Newer models are much smaller and easier to tolerate for many who were unable to find success with CPAP technology before. For patients who are not candidates for this type of therapy, an oral appliance may be recommended, which is why having dental specialists within the network is so important. The team also utilizes their knowledge and expertise to treat underlying issues which may have prevented success with certain therapies in the past. "Half of upper airway resistance is related to the nasal airway, and making improvements in nasal breathing, South Shore Sleep Diagnostics' Network of Sleep Labs, ENT Specialists and Dental Services Provides a One-Stop Solution to Sleep Disorders, Allergies and Other Health Issues Tired of Feeling Tired?
