22 For families who care for individuals with intellectual disabilities, aging can be worrisome. At 22, an individual ages out of the school system for good; a system that has provided daily support for much of their lives. It is crucial for these individuals and their caregivers to take steps to secure an action plan for the next phase of life and that is where GROW Associates, Inc. can help. Caregivers must maintain jobs and social obligations outside of the home, making it impossible for them to always be with their loved ones. Furthermore, those individuals crave purpose, structure and a sense of accomplishment. At GROW, every individual is treated with respect and dignity and encouraged to lead a productive life. For those served and for the staff, GROW is like a second home. Through Community Based Day Supports (CBDS) the team at GROW works closely with those they serve to structure daily life and provide vocational and recreational opportunities to get out and participate in the community. One of the many aspects that sets GROW apart from other services is that they encourage choice and involvement in decision making. The team doesn't just point and direct those they serve, but also provide options, allowing individuals to have a say in their lives and select activities that interest them. GROW ensures that team leaders are assigned to their own areas of interest, as well, fostering the most engagement from the staff and those they serve. One of GROW's most important goals is social integration through community activities and community contributions with organizations like Meals on Wheels and the Salvation Army. Such participation in the community is critical for the development of social skills. Some individuals are full-time, attending GROW Monday through Friday, for six hours each day, while others attend just a few days a week. Due to increased health risks and other hurdles caused by the pandemic, many utilize the organization's remote services, participating throughout the day in activities through Zoom. For those who attend the program full-time or part-time, GROW ensures that everyone has the option to get off-campus and out DIGNITY. INDEPENDENCE. RESPECT.
