33 TheSouthShoreMagazine.com Along with horticultural and agricultural exhibits, motorsports and animal shows, a main part of the fair is, of course, the food! For generations, families have indulged on traditional delights like candy apples, fried dough and sausage, but today you will find much more, including a variety of local food trucks serving up everything from barbecue and tacos to light and healthy options. "In recent years we have tried to balance the traditional fair foods that patrons seek out with new food trucks. These trucks expand our food offerings to things like 'Modern American Street Food' or 'Gourmet Grilled Cheeses,'" explains Marshfield Fair Board Member Noel Powers. The fair even offers local craft options for beer lovers, partnering this year with South Boston's Castle Island Brewing Company. "We are thrilled to be partnering with the Marshfield Fair this year as they ring in 154 years of this amazing celebration," said Castle Island Brewing Founder and President Adam Romanow. "The Fair has a remarkable legacy of showcasing local vendors and providing world- class entertainment, and we are honored for the opportunity to share our award-winning beer with fairgoers from the South Shore and beyond this August." And, of course, what's a fair without music? This year, the North River Blues Festival is celebrating its 27th season at the fair! Featuring artists from around the country, this two-day festival is the perfect way to close out the fair, with a variety of blues acts to enjoy throughout the weekend. In addition to the annual blues festival, the fair will open with a country music showcase, featuring local and traveling artists who will bring a country flair to the event. This time-honored tradition takes place every August, New England's sunniest month, and is a perfect way to bring the summer to a close. "We see many people that used to come as children now bringing their own kids or grandchildren," says Marshfield Fair President Lenny LaForest. "It has become a yearly family tradition for many on the South Shore as they look to cap off their summer." Since its inception, the fair has only been canceled twice: once during World War II and again during the pandemic in 2020. The society is proud to continue this family tradition with this year's 154th Marshfield Fair, and for many more years to come. This year's Marshfield Fair will be held August 19 through 28.
