The change in the skies, the colors, the various festivals, football and so much more make Autumn a bustle of activities before we all hunker down for winter. On the topic of bustling activities, just prior to World War II, the South Shore was still a very agricultural based-area with pockets of industry. The town where I have lived my entire life, Hingham, was still very rural, and its population was under 5,000. When the United States became an active ally in the World War II war efforts, it identified the Bethlehem Steel Fore River Yard as a strategic location for shipbuilding. This area of Hingham that we now know as residences and shops was transformed from open fields to a full-blown shipyard in less than 18 months, and Hingham's population swelled to nearly 50,000 during war time. Fast forward to the present and the O'Connor family of Hingham, owners of The Briar Group in Boston, has opened a new dynamic restaurant in the Hingham Shipyard that pays homage to its history: The Beth (Bethlehem Hingham Shipyard. This open, airy, upscale, waterfront location has a variety of food and beverages to satisfy any palate. Stop by and enjoy!
