23 TheSouthShoreMagazine.com A Hands-On Approach to Healing In early 2018, Chris partnered with Executive Director Lori McCarthy, to open Herren Wellness, a residential treatment organization right here in Seekonk. Just stepping onto their breathtaking campus immediately provides a sense of ease and reassurance that you have found a path forward. Whether you are there seeking treatment for yourself or supporting a loved one, Herren feels like home. This is a place where you can embrace your truth and ready yourself for a lifetime of recovery. Herren focuses on the whole person – mind, body and spirit. Their personalized, holistic approach is tailored to meet individual needs and enable personal growth and transformation. When you join the Herren community, you'll never feel alone again. From day one, you are welcomed by a team of like-minded individuals – many living their own remarkable lives of recovery – and support doesn't end on the last day of your stay.. Herren has an impressive alumni community, providing a lifelong network of connection. The model of the residential program was carefully crafted by Chris, Heather and Lori to be a place they would feel comfortable with their own loved ones seeking treatment. Every touch is thoughtful and deliberate, from décor to amenities. Physical activity is an important part of helping people feel grounded, so guests are encouraged to participate in everything from walking and yoga to massage therapy, acupuncture and breath work. Physical activity, coupled with process groups and individual counseling, has proven to help with faster recovery. The essence of the program is discovering your "why." Guests look inward to address the "why" of how they got there, and the "why" of recovery, discovering the possibilities and opportunities that recovery gives and allows for. They learn how to cope and are encouraged by the prospect of a healthy life free from substances and rich with purpose. Throughout the healing process, the Herren team will work with loved ones, preparing the entire family for a critical transition that affects everyone in the household, and ensuring the timeline is dictated only by readiness. Herren does not operate a typical insurance-driven 30-or 60-day model. Guests come, they settle in, and they heal and grow at a pace that works for them. Everyone is different, so it makes sense that every treatment plan should be too. "When we first opened our doors in 2018, we had a clear mission: to treat individuals and families with dignity and respect," explains Lori. "Providing families a parallel support process and never wavering from our belief that no struggle is too small." At Herren, there are no expectations. Recovery is a strength. It is an amazing accomplishment and a beautiful way to live.
