"Yes, these are complex times, but NVNA and Hospice is committed to increasing our census, and that makes us very different from our colleagues in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts," observes CEO Renee McInnes. "Our mission is to care for more patients, and the path forward includes hiring at a focused and intense pace." Since 2023, NVNA and Hospice has hired over 50 new team members and is prepared to onboard another 70 before the close of the year. Mary Fay, NP, MSN, FNP-BC Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner "My role as a palliative nurse practitioner is to be able to help those with serious illness live more comfortably with medical, social, and emotional support. I walk with them on their journey and meet both patients and families where they are. Palliative care provides a safe space to discuss a patient's worries and fears surrounding their illness, but also to share their hopes and dreams. I particularly enjoy working at NVNA and Hospice because of the strong interdisciplinary team approach to caring for patients." NVNA and Hospice is proud to offer a robust clinical education program. For colleagues who seek to advance their careers and elevate the care they provide, the Gerry Sanderson Education Fund is available and fully funded by charitable giving. Over a dozen employees have completed an RN to BSN degree while continuing to care for their patients. In total, over 225 colleagues have been directly impacted by scholarship programs. These include such diverse topics as wound care, dementia training and advanced medical coding courses. A recent innovation is the establishment of a simulation lab, allowing managers to facilitate hands-on sessions with clinical staff where they have the opportunity to refine and build on skills in a collaborative atmosphere. A commitment to high-tech nursing and rehabilitation therapy has advanced into clinical specialties including dementia, heart failure, diabetes and pain management. Telehealth is a valued technological asset, but the direct face-to-face care in the home cannot be replaced. Lucia Fontes Home Health Aide "NVNA and Hospice is a great company, and I am just so happy to be a part of the team. This organization has the most amazing staff. As a home health aide, my role is to care for our patients and give them the best experience they can have while on our service. The extensive training we receive and the frequent communication we have with our managers make that possible." 9 TheSouthShoreMagazine.com Mary Fay, NP, MSN, FNP-BC Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner Lucia Fontes Home Health Aide
