Written by Robin Young, photography by Brian Doherty LOVE TRYING NEW THINGS? UVA WINE BAR OFFERS A UNIQUE SOCIAL EXPERIENCE 28 If you love wine and are looking for an exciting new experience to try this summer, then head to historic Plymouth. Nestled in the charming and walkable downtown, you will find Uva Wine Bar, a self-serve wine experience unlike any other in the region. A thoughtfully curated spread of 48 wines, covering all the major regions and varietals, and some of the lesser known ones, is on display and ready for your easy enjoyment. You can try as many as you'd like, with pour options ranging from a 2 oz taster to a 4 or 6 oz glass. Make your visit all about tasting or find one you love and stick with it. The options are endless, and the choices are all yours. That is what really sets Uva Wine Bar apart. HERE'S HOW IT WORKS Upon arrival, you will receive a wine card and a tasting glass. From there, simply insert the card into the dispenser with the wine of your choice, place your glass under the spout, select how much you want and with the press of a button, your tasting journey has commenced. The wine card tracks your consumption – each wine has its own price point – and your tab is settled at the end of your visit. Not sure how to decide? Owners Michelle Manware and Katy Thayer and their staff are happy to walk you through the process and provide recommendations. Want to explore on your own? Conveniently displayed tasting notes are posted in front of each wine and you can even see employee-favorites clearly noted across the famous wall of wine. "We believe that wine tasting should be an unpretentious, approachable activity," explains the pair. "Uva Wine Bar is a fun place where people can enjoy, learn about and discover the pleasures of wine from around the world, on their own terms." Manware has extensive wine knowledge, allowing her to expertly select their inventory, ensuring a well-balanced variety of regions and grapes are represented, while mixing in unique offerings that guests are unlikely to be introduced to elsewhere. There is always something new to try, with about five wines per week being changed.
