30 At Scituate's XR Sandwiches (Crossroads), owner Ben Cutler is revolutionizing lunch. Conveniently located inside Driftway General, XR serves up made to order, chef-inspired sandwiches, smash burgers, grab-and-go items and more. A Hingham native, Ben spent many years working in the industry and has a remarkable understanding of what makes a memorable guest experience here on the South Shore. His attention to detail, from crafting sandwiches to the spotless kitchen (set up more like a fine dining restaurant than a sandwich shop), he is serving up only the best. In fact, his commitment to quality and to his customers is the most important aspect of his business. With the vast majority of items being made in house – think fresh, roasted turkey and roast beef, chicken salad with bright flavors, freshly baked desserts, house smoked BBQ, and more – Ben is always concocting new and delicious offerings. "I like to have fun with it," he explained. "I am always trying to create something memorable" He will even custom make something that isn't on the menu if a guest prefers. "If you can dream it, and we have it, you're getting it." By preparing most of his own meats, he ensures his sandwiches are not loaded with preservatives and other "stuff." Customers get creative and delicious meals with the best quality ingredients. He even makes and sells his own XR BBQ Sauce. I took one home myself and it did not disappoint — tangy-sweet-smoky perfection. There is something for everyone on the XR menu. Top sellers at the shop include the Crossroads Reuben with tender corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and thousand island dressing; the Mimi – named for Ben's beloved late mother – with roast beef, cheddar, caramelized onions, horseradish cream, pickled green beans, lettuce and tomato; The Forager with grilled fresh mushrooms, red onion, farm-fresh veggies, grilled tomatoes and cheddar; and, of course, the juicy Smash Burgers. XR even offers vegan cheese and gluten free bread. Speaking of allergies, XR takes every precaution when preparing allergy orders – fresh workstation, gloves and tools – ensuring guests can enjoy a worry-free lunch. Ben is well-versed in food safety, maintains his Serve Safe and Allergen Awareness certificates, and pays close attention to any possible hazard. Like I said: spotless kitchen. Whether you are grabbing a quick sandwich on your work break or packing lunch for a day at the beach, XR's convenient location Who Says Quality Can ' t be Convenient?
