Crone began making his own wines back in 2008 with Cigar
Box Malbec. After success with the brand, he explored other rich
lands of South America, purchasing 75 acres in the central valley
of Chile – about two hours south of Santiago – where today he
and his team make Squid Inc. wines.
To further reduce costs to the consumer, Crone has his own
import company which imports his wines directly, eliminating
the need for unnecessary importer markup.
By using the best techniques and self-importing directly from
his vineyard in Chile, Crone can offer this impressive wine to
consumers at a fair and attractive price.
Wondering about the name? Early in his career, Crone was
obsessed with achieving the richest color in every wine he
made, earning him the nickname "Squid Ink." After adopting
from Scituate Animal Shelter, Crone paid homage to his
moniker by naming his adorable black cat 'Squid.' If you look
closely at the back label of the wines you will spot a silhouette
of Squid the cat!
