Their work doesn't stop in Scituate. The mission was always to build a model and recreate it in other communities to address the housing crisis facing this vulnerable population. "This is a model to be replicated," explains Henry. "Everything we are doing seems to be going at a rapid pace, but it's being done thoughtfully and intentionally. We are bringing in people with expertise to build this foundation and housing model to be able to take this and bring it to the next community." Where will they go next? They are hoping to firm up a plan for the next SAIL Home in 2026! An ongoing capital campaign aims at funding this next project. However, endowment funding is needed to secure the future of the organization and its ability to scale this model and bring it to other communities all over Massachusetts and beyond. The Town of Scituate recognized the need and played an indispensable role in bringing this project to fruition, contributing $1.75M in community preservation funds to SAIL Home with approval from residents via town meeting. Support from Senator Patrick O'Connor has been monumental in emphasizing the importance and need of the SAIL Home model. Budget restraints notwithstanding, Senator O'Connor put forth two earmarks— $25K in 2024, and $100K in 2025—to support the project. SAIL Home's success in Scituate proves that partnerships with municipalities and local legislators are paramount to the success of vital community projects and programming that support individuals with Intellectual Developmental Disabilities (IDD) and/or autism. "SAIL Home is thrilled to celebrate our Grand Opening," says Henry. "We'll thank Senator O'Connor, Scituate Town Administrators, and our incredible donors at a VIP Reception on Friday, Oct. 24, followed by a public Open House on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 11a.m. to 2p.m., at 809 Country Way. Together, we're creating new opportunities for adults with varying abilities to live independently and stay connected to their community."
