wanted and needed ways to get exercise in an organized manner
but didn't necessarily want to go to a local gym so we launched
our Special Olympics program with offerings throughout the year.
We noticed the difficulties people had making real friendships in
the community so we worked with the local Kiwanis Chapter
and started an Aktion Club where individuals in our programs
are able to join the Kiwanis for little personal cost. This has led
to the establishment of both real connections with people outside
of human services as well as an opportunity to give of themselves
to others who are less fortunate. Finally, we noticed that many
people never had the opportunity to engage in outdoor activities
so we started the 'We Love to Fish' program where Individuals
are able to go fishing under expert guidance while also getting
in closer touch with nature in a safe, enjoyable way. While such
activities are seen by some as "risks" we see the JOY they bring
into the lives of those we serve.
We also believe that our organization and those we serve have
much to give back to the world around us, and also that we
have a responsibility to be good citizens ourselves. We live that
responsibility through our involvement in other organizations
and active support of other charities helping others who are
struggling. We have "gone solar" at our headquarters in
Marshfield. The solar array there now produces 80% of the
electricity we use from a sustainable source (while also reducing
our overall utility costs making it a win-win for everyone). We are
a good employer. RTR is a major employer in the region and the
single largest employer in Marshfield!
I hope you will help us to continue making lives better for adults
with disabilities by joining the celebration! Please contact Denise
