great tastes ~ Wood's Seafood Fall is a different Kettle of Fish at Wood's Seafood Star of Excellence 2013 T he summer has technically ended, but Jay Kimball and his staff at Wood's Seafood and Fish Market in Plymouth are as busy as ever. Their popular catered clambakes were such a huge hit this summer that they're booked well through the fall. This summer, Kimball said "we did quite a few clambakes on board boats also," but they still regretfully turn down more catering requests than they can fill. So much so, that Kimball said he plans to set up a separate venue next summer to accommodate just the catering. Wood's just finished a very successful summer with striped bass. Because the State imposes a quota on the fishery, Kimball explains, "It's a limited commercial season, this year from July 10th to August 10th." What's next? "As we get into fall, we have Nantucket and Cape scallops. The quality of those scallops is the best in the world." The season partly opens on October 1st, and will be fully open November 1st, and will close in March. Also, with autumn comes falling lobster prices. Jay Kimball said the prices stay low until the second week of December, when holiday buying begins. Wood's runs a baked stuffed lobster special at their fish market until the first week of December—a 1 to 1 ¼ lb. lobster stuffed with Ritz crackers, shrimp, and scallops is cooked and ready to take home and heated up for just $9.99. Fresh shucked lobster meat is also available at low prices. by Maryellen Dever, Photography by Mindi Sokoloski 94 As Thanksgiving and Christmas near, Kimball strongly urges customers to order their cooked shrimp and seafood for their holiday meals early. With tourists coming to Plymouth for Thanksgiving, the restaurant and fish market are quite busy. He suggests a call to the fish market (508-746-0621) in advance, and the order will be ready for pick up when you arrive. For those relatives and friends who won't be home for the holidays, how about a "care package"? Wood's ships lobster, as well as clambakes for two, anywhere in the country. Wouldn't this be a great taste of home, or the perfect gift for the person who has everything?
