30 L o n g w a t e r P l a c e A State-of-the-Art Medical Home for Patient-Centered Quality Care by Claudia Dolphin, Photos by Peter Vanderwarker W hen the first patients were welcomed through the doors of South Shore Medical Center's new Longwater Place location in September of 2013, it marked the natural next step for a practice long committed to innovation and forward thinking. Established in 1962 on Washington Street in Norwell, South Shore Medical Center was the region's first multi-specialty clinic. The five founding physicians had a novel idea at the time, that healthcare quality and the patient experience are enhanced when multi- specialty services are connected and coordinated underneath one roof. This model has withstood the test of time and has allowed South Shore Medical Center to thrive. The road to Longwater Place began with the recognition by South Shore Medical Center of the current changing landscape of healthcare. They saw that the future would require a more team- based, patient-centered focus. It became apparent to South Shore Medical Center's leadership team that to meet these demands, more space would be required. With every inch of the original Norwell location being used, advancement this time would require something on a grander scale: new construction was needed. The Longwater Place location is the most recent expansion for South Shore Medical Center, which also has facilities in Kingston and in Weymouth at Atrius Health Women's Center. The original Norwell location on Washington Street closed its doors in November of last year. Longwater Place is a medical campus, with South Shore Medical Center occupying space divided between two separate buildings. The main patient care building is the largest, occupying 80,000 square feet. A second facility, which houses the clinical and business support services, along with other care providers, is conveniently situated just across the parking lot. Located in the Assinippi Industrial Park in Norwell, Longwater Place provides plenty of parking and easy access to the entryways. In the patient care facility, there are two separate Centralized Registration Desk Lobby with Inside Garden
