52 be sure to grab your attention. Catch her at the Alley Bar at The Boston Harbor Hotel on August 21st. For more information, visit www.OliviaBrownleeMusic.com. Let's take a moment to talk about Jake Hill. Jake Hill is one of a kind. His folky roots and his modern edge blend strongly together to form a sound that's easily identifiable as well as grittily charming. A great writer and versatile collaborator, Jake's variety of projects all manage to take on a life of their own while still remaining, simply, Jake. Jake is also a strong advocate for the arts (as any artist should be), but Jake has taken it to the next level by working tirelessly with The Spire to help get things off the ground and running. I'm sure Jake will be performing again at The Spire, but in the meantime, catch Jake at Barn Show in Manomet on July 18th as part of the Plymouth Independent Music Festival. For more information, visit www.JakeHill.com. Another local musician performing at several of these venues this summer is Of Lions and Giants (Jose Docen). Jose released his debut EP two years ago and has been performing in and around the area ever since. Jose's music is introspective yet attention grabbing. His minor-keyed melodies, syncopated rhythms and unique perspectives are fronted with a voice which easily switches from smooth to cutting. His songs and vocals are completely compelling, dynamic and thoughtful. Of Lions and Giants will be performing at the Summer Night Concert Series on August 30th and holds a residency at The Alley Bar at the Boston Harbor Hotel every Tuesday from June through August. It's very clear that the music community in and around the South Shore is a strong one. Our location is a New England gem, and our venues are as diverse and plentiful as the artists who perform in them. We are also proud of our support system here on the South Shore. For example, South Shore Music in Weymouth has long been a supporter of music in the area. I don't know a musician who hasn't purchased something from this wonderful establishment. Our friends at South Shore Music have been in business for decades...not one, not two, not three, but more than four decades of exceptional service to the music community. There is a reason that they have been in business so long. Their choice of quality instruments, knowledgeable staff and fair dealings have earned them a loyal customer base that is always happy to return to the shop. Whether in need of lessons, repairs, instruments or just a great group of guys to talk shop with, a visit to South Shore Music is always a pleasant experience. For more information on South Shore Music, visit www.SouthShoreMusic. com. So there you have it folks! The Beat, Volume 2: "Summer Music!" As always, it's been a pleasure and I look forward to seeing you at the show!
