51 Music lovers! Welcome back to "The Beat," Volume #2. This volume is all about summer music in and around the South Shore! The South Shore has a bustling music scene year-round but with warmer temperatures, longer days, and lots of ocean front to take in, the South Shore really comes alive with an abundance of summer concert series, seasonal venues and an influx of new people to entertain. So let's begin with Brewster Productions. The team at Brewster Productions takes over Plymouth each summer with the "Acoustic Nights Summer Concert Series" and the "Plymouth Independent Music Festival." This year, they've teamed up with Hayley Sabella in presenting "Barn Show," a new music series at Holmes Farm in Manomet. For more info on these shows, visit www. BrewsterProductions.com and www.BarnShowManomet.com. Plymouth is also celebrating the addition of new venue called "The Spire." The Spire is a state-of-the-art performance arts center located right in downtown Plymouth. Once inside, The Spire is one of the most beautiful venues in the region. An old church with high-vaulted ceilings, antique woodwork and impeccable acoustics, The Spire is set to host a variety of productions ranging from theater, community events and concerts featuring world class touring musicians. For more information on The Spire, visit www. SpireCenter.org. Perhaps one of the best music events this summer is the Levitate Music and Arts Festival presented by Levitate Surf Shop. Dan and Jess Hassett of Levitate Surf Shop know how to throw one heck of a summer concert. The 2nd annual Levitate Music and Arts Festival will be held at the Marshfield Fair Grounds on July 12. It is an all day, all ages event with some amazing acts such as Steel Pulse, Donavan Frankenreiter and Rubblebucket. Local artists Windsor Tree and Third Left will also be gracing the Levitate Stage. For tickets and info, visit www.LevitateMusicFestival.com. One great thing about the South Shore is its proximity to Boston. Although the quiet, ocean-side towns and laid-back atmosphere provide a welcome environment on a warm summer day, one can't argue that a trip to the city can be an exciting, and often needed night out. This summer, you will find a bevy of local artists flocking to the city to practice their craft. For the second summer in a row, PB and Jay Records will be presenting live music five nights a week at Boston Harbor Hotel's open air Alley Bar. Located directly on Boston Harbor, The Alley Bar sits snugly against Rowes Wharf. It provides the perfect end to a hard day's work or the perfect beginning to a night on the town. With the beautiful city to one side, and Boston harbor to the other, patrons can enjoy not only great music, but a fine selection of food and beverage. Some of the artists on this year's roster include Quincy's Eva Walsh (fresh off her spring tour), Carlin Tripp (currently recording his debut by Jay Psaros LP), "For the Sake of the Song's" Patrick Coman, and Americana songstress Susan Cattaneo. The Alley Bar, however isn't The Boston Harbor Hotel's only music venue. Located directly behind Rowe's Wharf, the Blues Barge offers up some of the region's best bands for your listening pleasure. Don't be fooled by the name. The Blues Barge offers up a bigger musical variety than Blues alone. Catch Soul Music on Tuesdays and their Rat Pack themed shows on Wednesdays. The Blues Barge is literally, a floating barge turned stage. To get any closer to the water would mean getting wet! The Boston Harbor Hotel is Boston's five-star hotel. With great music, food, views and luxurious amenities, I highly recommend a night with our friends at The Boston Harbor Hotel. So you've had your great night of music with our friends at The Boston Harbor Hotel. You went to Brewster Production's Plymouth Independent Music Festival and felt irie at the Levitate Music and Arts Festival. You took in a great night of musical culture at The Spire and got dirty at The Barn Show. Now what? Summer on the South Shore is filled with hidden gems where live music lives and breathes. Make sure to check out Hull's Kitchen. Located directly on Nantasket Beach, this family owned restaurant hosts singers/songwriters four nights a week. Another local spot, located in Stoughton is the Stoughton House of Brews. The Stoughton House of Brews has quickly developed a great reputation for live music. Playing host to a variety of award-winning local talent, the Stoughton House of Brews places a strong emphasis on original writers and performers earning them a soft spot in the heart of local songwriters. Now all of these venues are great places and are sure to entertain, but what about the people performing at these venues? Let's take a look at some of the "must-see" talent who will be gracing these stages. First up on the list, Olivia Brownlee. Olivia is a welcome transplant to The South Shore. From a musical family, Olivia is rooted in swing, jazz, cowboy and folk. Olivia has been teaching music overseas for the past few months and is returning to the area this summer for several area gigs. Her effortless voice and unique style of writing will The SouthShoreMagazine.com
