Walking into the high-ceilinged entryway of the house at 61
Border Street in Scituate, you are instantly enveloped in natural
light and immediately feel warm and welcomed. This, says builder
Michael J. Kenny, is no accident.
Every detail in this home that he and his wife, Kristen, designed
and originally constructed for themselves to live in, is carefully
planned and coordinated to create a seamless transition from
room to room and an overall space you "simply want to be in."
The curved wall leading from the entry hall into the kitchen is the
first obvious example as you enter the home. The wall is functional
in hiding the back of the kitchen appliances, but also invites you
to smoothly transition from the hallway into the kitchen area.
The kitchen then opens directly into the living room with an
island in between for eating, working, or socializing. The living
room features a built-in entertainment unit and fireplace, with a
row of windows above the mantel whose design mirrors that of
the windows in the kitchen and the entryway, and the adjacent
functional dining area. Deep coffers, built-ins, curved walls,
reflected details, and high, round windows are all trademarks of
Kenny & Kenny construction and can be found throughout this
home. While it is a three-story house, it is built primarily for first
floor living, with the master bedroom on the first level. Michael
