ENHANCE INTEGRATED WELLNESS Bare Cove Corporate Centre - South • 25 Recreation Park Drive, Suite 112 Hingham • 781-982-5566 • enhancewellnessma.com By Emily J. Reynolds What if it seemed your health was slowly slipping away? At Enhance Integrated Wellness in Hingham, Dr. Carol DeFranca and Dr. Scott Chapman routinely meet people with challenging health situations who have lost hope that they will ever be well again. "We feel the first step toward wellness is understanding your options and your responsibilities," says DeFranca. "Transformation begins with your thoughts," adds Chapman. One such story begins with a Mom who begins her journey back to wellness while trying to help her family. Here is what Amy Barao of Hingham has to say - When I first encountered Dr. Carol and Dr. Scott, I had never heard of the concept of integrated wellness. I attended a presentation they gave on nutrition, thinking I could get some tips about how to maximize nutrition for my sons who are competitive swimmers. That decision turned out to be fortuitous because it set me back on the path to wellness. At the time I was struggling with major effects stemming from a biking accident. I was in pain and immobile. I visited specialist after specialist each wanting to give me another medication. And I wasn't getting any better… On a whim I asked Dr. Carol if she thought she could help me. I was desperate and frustrated by the lack of a holistic approach by my medical physicians. Dr. Carol demonstrated an immediate concern for me as a total person and walked me through the ways that we could work together to literally get me back on my feet. Our first sessions included a detailed analysis of my situation and centered on the process of change, specifically my mindset. I had to believe that recovering my life was possible. We began with a plan to reduce the inflammation throughout my body through nutrition. That was combined with chiropractic care, massage therapy and exercise to correct movement imbalances. Through it all, I received constant encouragement from the doctors and staff. Dr. Carol gave me hope, backed it up with her professional competency, and here I am one year later. I am nearly pain-free, my movement is restored, I exercise again, I lost the weight gained from my medications and most importantly I don't need them anymore! I am so grateful for Dr. Carol and Dr. Scott at Enhance Integrated Wellness. "Health is a spectrum. It's very dynamic," Dr. DeFranca explains, "we are either moving toward wellness or moving toward illness. Our role is to move our patients toward wellness. Amy is courageous, determined and resilient. It's a privilege to share in her journey." Dr. Chapman notes, "Amy's story is a great example of how one incident can trigger a chain of events leading toward illness. It also shows us how taking a different approach can lead us back to wellness." Amy's change began with a conversation. We are here to help.
