unlike anything seen before. Individuals with I/DD from RTR and our sister organization in Arizona were paired, as peers, with a pro fisherman as they set out onto Saguaro Lake. I don't know if you've ever seen a pro bass-fishing tournament, but they all begin the same way…with a pulse-pounding, pedal-to-the-metal dash across the water for the best fishing spots! Lake Saguaro is well-known for its picturesque views and deep water carved into the mountain side…a perfect backdrop for what turned into a dream of day fishing all around. Smiles, excitement, camaraderie, natural splendor and some of the best catch-and-release fishing imaginable…that's what makes for a perfect day on the water. That's the mission of our "We Love to Fish" program. This spring, athletes from our basketball team caught the attention of the Boston Celtics and the New England Patriots. First, our team got invited (for the second time in three years!) to play a game on the fabled parquet floor at Boston Garden during half-time of the Celtics game. Here, they got to meet many players on the Celtics while experiencing the thrill of playing in front of a packed house of fans. Next, two of our basketball players got asked to participate in an exhibition basketball game between Marshfield High School Boosters and a team comprised of members of the Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots as part of a fundraiser for Marshfield High School sports. They each scored and made some great plays for their team and came home having made new friends and with a page full of autographs! Stories like these are just a few showing the work that is being done. The "adventure" is not always a trip to a fancy destination, though. The daily effort of building a meaningful life and overcoming challenges on the road to self-discovery and enrichment is the 27 TheSouthShoreMagazine.com real adventure. At RTR, we are honored to be knowledgeable, compassionate guides for the people in our programs while educating the community at large about the abilities these Individuals possess. WE CANNOT DO THIS ALONE. WE NEED YOUR HELP. There are many ways you can join us in this adventure. Our Annual Gala at the Boston Quincy Marriot is scheduled for October 15th. Become a corporate sponsor; donate an item for our Live or Silent Auction; attend the gala or volunteer on our Event Planning Committee to help make this a successful evening. This is a long exciting journey, and we would love for you to join us in our Mission to "Make Lives Better" for adults with disabilities!
