Marchesi di Barolo was one of the first to be featured at the in-store tasting series. Maraia Barbera was in attendance from the vineyard to educate South Shore Wine lovers about the virtues of her family's wonderful wines from the village of Barolo and Lange area of Piedmont, Italy. Borolo is the village that gave its name to the "King of Wines" and it is located in the heart of the Langhe hills. The seabed which arose from the oceans in different eras created the irregular shapes to the hills, with an original and exclusive composition of the soil. Borolo sits in the middle of two larger rises in a valley that protects it from harsh weather, front sand and extreme airflow. The Alps protect the region from cold northwestern winds and the southern side is protected by the Apennines mountain range. This creates an exceptionally favorable "viticulture" that has cool temperatures and well defined seasons that bring out particularly fine and intense aromas in the grapes. Anna and Ernesto Abbona are fifth generation vintners for Marchesi di Barolo who firmly believe in the original (over 200 years ago) and distinguished wines produced in this region, characterized by a number of highly prestigious native vines and the unique soil composition. "Marchesi Di Barolo and its vintners truly understand the unique climate and soils of this historic and diverse land, rigorously respecting and preserving the typicality of its products by using grapes that come from estate vineyards and from contributing vintners selected over the years. Favoring optimum position and the ability to maintain multiple vineyards, Marchesi di Borolo controls over 120 hectors of vineyards." At the recent tasting at Marsh's Wine & Spirits, customers were able to taste a multitude of Marchesi di Barolo wines, including the 2010 Borolo, 2011 Cannubi Barolo, Gavi Di Gavi, Barbera d'Alba Ruvei, Valentin Abbona, Ventin Bove and a few others. These wines are great in pairing with the foods of the autumn season. To learn more about this particular brand, the staff at Marsh's Wine & Spirits is extremely knowledgeable and is able to help you with your selection.
