In each issue of The South Shore Magazine, "The Beat" strives to keep you up to date and "in the know" with all things music, in and around our humble region. As small as our music community may be, its outreach is surprisingly vast. Our local artists often share the stage with some of music's biggest names, representing the South Shore and all that it has to offer. This might lead one to ask, "Who are these people?" Sure, we can identify the likes of Steven Tyler, in which there is no secret regarding his ties to the region. In the world of television and film, Steve Carell might come to mind as a celebrity who has local ties. As with all theatrical endeavors, the main character is often heavily supported by a strong supporting cast. Music is no different. This issue of "The Beat" will focus on the "side- guys." The "side-guys" (and girls) are the supporting cast that makes the show exactly what it is, often with such a smooth subtlety that their efforts are easy to overlook. All of these "side-guys" are front men and women in their own right, but have a supporting role in music that extends far beyond the South Shore. The first person on this list is the undeniably passionate and talented Brian Stratton. A California transplant to the region, Stratton has called the South Shore home for well over two decades. Stratton's story in music is a "been there, done that" tale filled with a little bit of luck, but mostly one of hard work and dedication. A bass player by trade, Stratton played for ten 46 by Jay Psaros Welcome back, music lovers, to the seventh edition of "The Beat," coming to you from The South Shore Magazine, located right here on Boston's best shore, the South Shore.
