I'd like to get things started by talking a little bit about Susan Cattaneo. Cattaneo, who resides in Medford, is no stranger to the music scene here on the South Shore. She has frequented a variety of local venues, both big and small, such as The Spire Center for the Arts, The River Club Music Hall and the South Shore Music Circus. Cattaneo's journey in music started quite some time ago. Raised in New Jersey in a musical family, Cattaneo made the journey north some years ago and has remained rooted in Greater Boston ever since. She has been making a big splash in the region recently, with her writing as the shining feature of her musicality. In a time where music seems to be filled with meaningless tag lines, topic-less non sense and a general illiteracy, Cattaneo has proudly run in the opposite direction, filling her songs with lyrics that are not only meaningful, but clever as well. Cattaneo's storytelling shines, as she effortlessly marries her literary intent with calculated melodies. With years in the music industry, Cattaneo's experience as a songwriter has been showing in big ways. She and her team have long realized that writing has been but a small challenge. Knowing this has allowed her to focus on the next step of her career, which is assembling a band to support her words and melodies. With a couple of killer records under her belt, such as the acclaimed "Haunted Heart," Cattaneo has been attracting the attention of a bevy of seasoned players, which has added a mature and tasteful soundscape to her live performance. Cattaneo's band consists of a few slowly rotating members of players who are widely considered to be some of the region's best. Her current players include Jamie Walker, Jimmy Ryan, Richard Gates, Michael Bean and Andrew Jones…all veterans of Boston music. Cattaneo's last performance here on the South Shore was a stellar display of well-crafted songwriting, deft musicianship and articulate storytelling. She is currently crowdfunding a new record. Check it out at www.SusanCattaneo.com. Next up on the list is drummer Greg Settino, who is originally from Hingham and now lives in Boston, and is a frequent face on the South Shore music scene. Settino plays and has played with just about every songwriter from our beloved South Shore and is welcome on every stage in the area, where there are hundreds of players throughout the region. We are talking about musicians who are competent and fluent on their instrument and can get the job done when called upon. Not all of these players, however, are artists. Settino is a true artist. His mission when behind the kit goes beyond a replication of beats and grooves. He plays with a voice which is entirely his own. He plays with a gentle intensity and a musicality that is often considered rare amongst drummers (sorry Drummers!). Settino has performed gigs with most of the regions finest, such as Fil Pacino, Aldous Collins, Dave DeLuca (Double D and the Haymakers) and many more. It is without a doubt that many of YOUR favorite bands feature Settino on the kit. He is also a founding member of the duo gone trio, The Lousy Instruments, with longtime pal, Webb Sanquist. Settino has also appeared on a bevy of records from artists throughout the region. His love for music has fueled a career that keeps him in high demand and well respected by his peers. He is as much of a listener as 44 by Jay Psaros Greetings, music lovers, and welcome back to The Beat, Volume Eight! Here at The Beat, we cover all things music here on Boston's best shore, the South Shore! In this edition, we will talk about some of our favorite musical artists who frequent the South Shore, as well as some summer musical happenings here in the region.
