Meet Two of Our Supporters As someone who has long been sold on the outstanding work that is being accomplished at Cardinal Cushing Centers, Paul Sullivan, vice President of Sullivan Tire and Auto, is confident anyone who is exposed to the organization will be equally impressed. "I have always held Cushing in the highest regard for the tremendous work it does with the most vulnerable members of our population," Sullivan said. "As Cushing celebrates its 70th year, a milestone like that only happens when you have leadership with a vision. It started with Cardinal Cushing and the great Sisters of St. Francis and it has continued with all the stakeholders." Sullivan, who serves on the Board of Overseers at Cushing, said the biggest beneficiaries of the work done at Cushing are the students and parents. "The children are given the compassionate and loving care that has become the trademark of Cushing," he said. "To see the hope they instill in all parents is very inspiring for me." Sullivan said it is encouraging to see Cushing grow, including the construction of the building on Route 53 that will house retail shops and classrooms. "It's very heartwarming to see an organization like Cushing step up and make an investment for the betterment of people who have special challenges," he said. "To be able to support a growing organization is a wonderful opportunity. I would hope that everybody would take a look, visit, shop, contribute, volunteer – help in whatever way they can. Montilio's Baking Company supports Cardinal Cushing Centers in so many ways, as a friend, donor, and as a partner in employment. "It's a wonderful opportunity for the students to excel and make their own paychecks," said Owner George Montilio, whose father opened the business in 1947. "My father was involved with Cushing back in the 1960s, but we lost touch with them for a number of years. When I took a tour of the place, I wanted to renew that former commitment and help the students in a hands-on way." Cushing students are working at Montilio's retail bakery and pizzeria in Braintree and its retail bakery and manufacturing facility in Brockton, logging 15 hours a week on average and earning competitive wages. They are also being presented with an environment of constant customer contact, bolstering their interpersonal skills. This employment partnership is invaluable to Cardinal Cushing Centers. Montilio sees tremendous value for his business as well. Not only are the Cushing students dedicated, loyal and hardworking, they bring a certain energy and appreciation for their job that is infectious. Montilio also serves on Cardinal Cushing Centers' Springtime gala committee and is always the first person to raise his hand to help the organization whenever they have a special request.
