COMMUNITY HIGHLIGHTS Making An Impact On Plymouth County's Opioid Epidemic In 2015, BID-Plymouth decided to tackle the region's opioid epidemic by bringing together community groups, local police, school systems and outpatient providers to form the Integrated Healthcare & Substance Use Collaborative. The Collaborative is focused on improving the lives of those struggling with behavioral health and substance use by ensuring that they receive coordinated care and do not slip through the cracks. What began as a pilot program at BID-Plymouth three years ago has now grown into a regional network of outpatient providers, school systems, police departments and social service agencies working together to reduce fatal and non-fatal opioid overdoses in Plymouth County. Their efforts are making an impact. Based on data provided by Plymouth County Outreach, there was a 59% decrease in overdoses in Plymouth County and a 25% decrease in fatal overdoses in Plymouth from 2017 to 2018.
