Custom framing brings a stunning and memorable elegance to your home decor. Picture-framed artwork and photographs can serve as focal points or accents to a room as they provide that needed finish to any piece. HOW DO YOU WALK THE FINE LINE BETWEEN DEPERSONALIZING A HOME, BUT ALSO FINDING WALL ART THAT GIVES IT A PERSONALITY? When you're preparing to sell your home, the goal is to guide potential buyers' dreams into the space you've been occupying. You want your home to look welcoming, but impersonal. What's more, you want to highlight the best aspects and downplay some of its less- desirable quirks. Using art on the walls can help to define a room and give it an identity. Bedrooms will have different themes than a living room, for example. If there are rooms that are ambiguous, such as a spare room, the right imagery will explain its purpose: A map on the wall will show its potential as a study. Alternatively, vintage movie posters explain how it could make a great theatre room. Emotion is one of the biggest triggers when it comes to following through with a purchase. As an artist and designer, I believe that colors affect our mood. Art and the use of light and color can subconsciously manifest feelings, good or bad; that's why it's so important to choose the right wall art and colors. Artwork can add those needed accents that gives a space a feel or vibe, so the choice of the right color can make the potential buyer feel calmer, happier and even more secure. WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO HANG AND FRAME MIRRORS WHEN STAGING A HOME? Architectural balance is key. There are many places around your home you can add a mirror. One obvious place is the living area. A large wall mirror with a detailed frame can be just as elegant as an elaborate painting. Frames have the ability to change the entire presence of a mirror. Sharp can become soft. Bland can become colorful. Old can become new — all because of the frame you put on the glass. The best bet is to hang a mirror directly opposite a window. Just make sure you have some sheer light control, such as filmy curtains, to cut down on any glare. CAN YOU GIVE TIPS ON THE BEST WAY TO HANG ART? Framing 101 is that you have to be able to see your art to enjoy it, and if it is too high, too low, too close, or too far, it can be difficult to view. If you're creating a gallery wall with multiple frames, hanging everything too close together can make it look busy, while hanging everything too far apart can make it look disconnected. While it ultimately comes down to personal preference, plan for picture frames to be hung at least 1" apart from each other. If you're framing above furniture, hang them at least three to six inches above it. To make sure your frame hangs exactly where you want it to go, measuring the distance between the top of your frame and the hanging wire/bracket is important. Another good tip is to make sure you pull the hanging wire up toward the top of the frame before REALTOR Coldwell Banker Residential & Commercial stanley.blackmur@nemoves.com 781.603.7862 Hingham Furniture & Design is hiring a SALES TEAM MEMBER!
