Road to Responsibility, Inc. (RTR) has had a fantastic year, despite post-pandemic challenges. The organization received funding from the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism to implement assistive technology in 10 of their residential programs; was named one of the "Best Places to Work" by Cape & Plymouth Business Media; got their Special Olympics Softball team back in full swing; raised $15,000 in the Falmouth Road Race; brought the annual Making Lives Better Gala fundraiser back IN PERSON in September; and their CEO Christopher White was named CEO of the Year by the Provider's Council. RTR is a full-service nonprofit that provides homes, jobs, therapeutic day supports and a community for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). RTR believes that everyone deserves a full and dignified life and provides support so that people with disabilities can take their place as productive members of their community. RTR also provides peace of mind to families and caregivers who have a genuine interest in how their loved ones will fare when they are no longer in their care. The organization started in 1988 as a recreational program serving a small group of adults in Marshfield. Over the past 34 years, RTR has grown to be one of the largest and most well-respected service providers in the state. RTR offers a full range of programs geared to meet the needs of the 1,000 individuals served daily. RTR now has 49 residential group homes, 8 day habilitation and community based day support programs, as well as robust group and individual employment programs. FUNDING FROM THE DOUG FLUTIE, JR. FOUNDATION FOR AUTISM ALLOWS RTR TO IMPLEMENT ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY IN 10 RESIDENTIAL PROGRAMS RTR received grant funding from the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism to support their recent efforts to create "calming/de- escalation corners" in 10 of their residential programs. In these corners, they've implemented Nanoleaf light panels, Alexa devices, smart light bulbs and Alexa buttons. With each Alexa device, the Nanoleaf panels, lighting, music, etc. can be custom set for each individual's preferences. For those non-verbal or who prefer not to speak with Alexa, the Alexa buttons can be set with custom commands. Nanoleaf panels react to touch, controlling the lights with swipes and taps, and interactive games. By creating these corners, the goal is to provide a space for individuals with autism to have a designated place to retreat for relaxation and de-escalation. BEST PLACE TO WORK RTR was proud to be recognized and named a BEST PLACE TO WORK by the Cape & Plymouth Business Media. All nominations BEST PLACE TO WORK Written by Erin Cohen 20
