"Duxbury is home for us," said Kent III. "I went away for college and a few years after. But, when I was married and had a baby on the way, we decided it was time to get back to Duxbury. It's a wonderful community with a lot to offer families. I benefitted from that growing up and I wanted my kids to do so as well." Having started out in Duxbury's Hall's Corner (the business first opened in the building that now houses Duxbury Deli), Bayside Marine moved to a lot off of Washington Street on the bay in the 1960s, when second-generation owner Kent Jr. was still in school. They moved into a former mess hall building that the senior Kent had purchased for $300 from Otis Air Force Base, cut it up in small pieces and trucked down to Duxbury. It was put back together on the lot and served as Bayside's office and store. J.R. Kent bought the business from his dad in 1978. In 2005, Bayside moved to a property sitting along Washington Street, abutting the property that they had been in for over 40 years. That is where the store still stands today. Kent III has since purchased the business from his dad, who remains actively involved in operations. The current location is surrounded by the Duxbury Maritime School, as well as a few more South Shore treasures, including a tiny Talbot's clothing shop and the well- known French Memories bakery on one side, and the former Battelle Marine Research Laboratories site on the other.
