TheSouthShoreMagazine.com 45 8 Award Winners and Industry Insiders he is a player, which is an invaluable (and far too often overlooked) skill as a musician. Next time you are seeing music on the South Shore, keep an eye out for the drummer with the long flowing hair! Another great musical artist who frequents the South Shore is none other than Dave DeLuca. DeLuca has made his way through the musical landscape of The South Shore and beyond, earning a special place in just about every musician's heart. On a typical night, DeLuca will play two gigs, see three bands and make it to the bar for last call, all with a telecaster in hand. His most recent endeavor finds DeLuca in perhaps his most comfortable musical environment. It seems that DeLuca has found the niche he has been looking for with his outfit Double D and the Bluesmakers. A blues guitar player at heart, DeLuca has weaved in and out of several genres as a side guy playing a variety of different styles, before finally assembling a group of musicians that support his love of riff heavy blues progressions that often trace back to the forms Southern and Delta roots. Currently residing in Canton, DeLuca frequently makes his way to area venues to support a variety of working musicians that he simply calls his friends. Over the years, DeLuca has found much personal success with his music. Many of the bands that he idolized while coming up in the music scene are ones with whom he now shares the stage. DeLuca's kinship with the music scene has allowed him all the stage time one could ask for and, in turn, this stage time has done great things for his playing. His tone is impeccable, his licks are tasty and his passion is clear. Keep an ear out for Double D and the Bluesmakers, as they are sure to be down the South Shore at some local haunts this summer. Aside from some of our favorite visitors, let's take a look at some great summer music spots that will be kicking out the jams all summer long. Hull's Kitchen has entered its tenth year with a fantastic view of Nantasket Beach, and live acoustic music seven nights a week. Hull's Kitchen boasts a Tuesday night residency of guitar virtuoso, Boyan Hristov. For guitar fans, this is a great opportunity to see a local master up close. The third annual Levitate Music Festival will also be happening this summer at the Marshfield Fairgrounds on July 9. This summer's lineup includes acts like Stick Figure (founded by Duxbury native Scott Woodruff), Twiddle and the ever mighty Tedeschi Trucks Band (Susan Tedeschi, who is a Norwell Native). This is a great opportunity to see some national talent right here on the South Shore, as well as to see some national talent from our beloved area. The Spire Center in Plymouth will also be vamping up there performance schedule. Now into their second year, the Spire has done a great job of attracting national songwriters and regional favorites. This 200 seat converted church boasts immaculate sound, state of the art lighting and a community that whole heartedly supports the local music scene. Are you looking to get out and try your hand at a live musical performance? Check out these great area open mics. Mr. Dooley's in Cohasset hosts a songwriter's open mic every Wednesday night, while one of the longest running area open mics takes place on Tuesdays at the Tinker's Son in Norwell. Are you looking to play the blues? Then check out The Next Page in Weymouth on Thursday nights. The Next Page boasts top notch blues bands that are very welcoming to guitar slingers…you might even run into Dave DeLuca. The South Shore Music Circus is also gearing up for some spectacular shows. Choice shows include Lyle Lovett and his Large Band, Vince Gill and a much anticipated show by Bonnie Raitt with the exceptional Richard Thompson. Thanks so much for once again for tuning into The Beat in The South Shore Magazine. My name is Jay Psaros, and I hope to see you at a show sometime! "Opening (for Boz Scaggs) was Rockland's Jay Psaros, and if it is a daunting task for a solo guitarist, he had the throng in the palm of his hand. Many local fans probably already know what a versatile and dextrous guitarist Psaros is, but not having caught him for a year or so, we were most impressed by how much his vocals have grown. On his own finger-picking dazzler "Just A Young Man," Psaros also sang with warmth and nuance, pulling the audience into his words and earning a big ovation. He's getting a lot of these opening gigs this summer, and it's easy to see why." - The Patriot Ledger 7/26/2015
