47 world. From the hot new grape varietal that everyone is talking about to the most popular wine regions of the day, trends will come and go, yet Cobbett has stayed on top of them all. This dedication allows him to speak to each of them, so whether you are a fan of oaky or unoaked Chardonnays, Bordeaux or California Cabernets, Malbec or Merlot, Cobbett will point you in the right direction. His passion for cooking, specifically the ways in which food and wine work together, makes him an ideal source to ask all of your wine pairing questions. Seek out his smiling face on the floor; Cobbett is sure to make your next dinner party a hit. Our other wine manager is Martin Blackman. With over 25 years in the business, our wine department can boast over a half century worth of experience and knowledge. I do not think that is something that many wine stores can say. Blackman has been a retail wine manager and general manager and a wine buyer at a highly regarded national grocery chain, and has a passion for 'what's new' in the wine world and a great enthusiasm for passing on that information to his customers. One of Blackman's focuses will be on expanding areas of the wine department that have been somewhat neglected in the past. Look for a bevy of new choices from Spain, South Africa and Italy (especially the Piedmont region, which is home to one of his favorite wines, Barolo). Coming up with additions of unique grape varietals is also on Blackman's immediate plate. If you are looking to try something new and interesting, talk to Blackman and he will send you home with something special. Both Cobbett and Blackman are looking to make Kappy's the most exciting place around to shop for wine. From updating and adding to the already great wine selection, conducting frequent in- store, themed tastings, hosting in-store seminars (wine and food pairings, regional wine focuses, etc... and, hey, we'd love your suggestions too) and putting on winemaker dinners and functions at local restaurants, we are excited to dig right in and get all of these things going. To find out when all of these events are taking place, come in and sign up for our email newsletter list. Craft beer is a huge and growing category, and we think that we have one of the best people in the business to head up that department. John Lonardelli has expertise in all facets of the industry. In his 10+ years in the beer business, Lonardelli's experience includes beverage and bar operations for one of New York City's leading event venues, beer buying for a national high-end grocery chain and brewery tap room management. He has also collaborated with several local and national craft beer companies to teach beer classes on topics ranging from the basics of brewing to beer and food pairings. Come meet Lonardelli and see the groundwork being built on 'Beer Boulevard' in your Norwell store. We are positive that he is going to make Kappy's the best beer destination on the South Shore. Whereas three of the previous four gentlemen are new faces in Norwell, Heidi Sevigny has been here at 104 Washington Street for seven years. A longtime employee with Marsh's Wine and Spirits, we saw right away why this was the case and made sure that we didn't lose her. Basically, Sevigny handles everything that the other managers do not; which is a lot! She orders every non-alcoholic product in the store, handles special order requests and manages all aspects of the front of the store. In many ways, Sevigny is the face of the store, and often the first person you see when you walk through the door. These five highly talented individuals might lead the way, but it is the hard work of the entire team that makes our success possible. They are an experienced, wonderful group of people, and we are happy to have them on board. It is the abilities, strengths and professionalism of these individuals that make the name "Kappy's" proud. We would not have been around for 75 years if it was not for employees like these people. Please come in and meet them; the entire team would all love to meet you! Our first summer in Norwell was fantastic, and now that Labor Day is in the rear view mirror, it is time for us to plan our autumn events. Tastings, great sales and promotions and other exciting happenings are all in the works for September and October. And, before we know it, the November and December holidays will be here (yikes!), so we will be rolling out lots of fun events. We keep saying 'fun,' and that is what it should be. Wine, spirits and beer should be fun, as they are a part of special occasions, celebrations and get-togethers with friends and family. Since the doors to Kappy's Fine Wine & Spirits opened back in April, we can honestly say that Norwell has felt like home to us. The community has embraced us and we will continue to do our best to reciprocate that welcoming feeling. We hope to see you soon.
